25 - DESCRIBING PICTURES

Page 36

In the foreground, there are 4 people. There is a woman and 3 girls. They are outdoors. Maybe they are in a garden. The woman is tall and slim. She’s got long, straight, red hair. She’s wearing a beige top and black trousers. She’s holding a red cup and she’s laughing with the other girls. They seem very happy. Maybe they are celebrating a birthday because I can see some crisps, biscuits and cakes on the table in front of them. But I can’t see any birthday cake.

In the background, I can see a modern house, some trees and a beautiful green lawn. Maybe they live in the countryside. It’s a sunny day and I think it is late afternoon. They could be friends/neighbours.

Britain’s famous ‘Fish and Chips’
Fish and chips are one of Britain’s favourite dinners. The fish is fried in a batter and chips is another name for fried potatoes. Real British chips are big and chunky, not small and thin. They are not the ‘French fries’ that you see in American burger restaurants.

A lot of families have takeaway fish and chips on Friday nights. Usually people eat their fish and chips with lots of salt and vinegar. You can also have them with mushy peas – they taste delicious!
It isn’t a good idea to eat fish and chips every day because they are fried. However, nutritionists say they are OK to eat occasionally because they are fried quickly, so not much oil goes into the food. They also contain simple fresh ingredients and nutrients like protein and vitamin B6.
